A validation suite of software, to allow developers of market research software to test that all imports and exports they create to the Triple-S data standard fully comply with the standard, is to be created by the Triple-S group. It is being funded through generous sponsorship from six major research companies and providers of research data (in alphabetical order) GfK, Ipsos MORI, IRI, Kantar, Synovate and TNS.
Triple-S is the only vendor-independent international standard for error-free transmission of research data between different software platforms. It is currently supported by over 60 market research software suppliers, and is very widely used by market research companies worldwide. In common with many open standards initiatives, all members of the Triple-S Group work as volunteers to develop, maintain and promote the standard.
Triple-S spokesman Laurance Gerrard, of LG Consulting, comments: “This is the first time that the industry has come together to offer direct support to the Triple-S standard. It is another example of the tremendous co-operation, often among direct competitors, which has been the driving force behind Triple-S throughout its 15-year history.”
In December 2007, The Market Research Society (mrs.org.uk) and the Association for Survey Computing (asc.org.uk) presented a Special Achievement Award to the Triple-S group in recognition of the outstanding contribution that Triple-S has made to the research profession since its creation in 1993.
Triple-S is now seeking expressions of interest from software developers wishing to undertake the development of the validation suite.
