ASC/MRS Technology Social Evening

Tuesday 19th February 2008 at the
The Captain's Cabin
(4-7 Norris Street, SW1Y 4RJ, just off Haymarket)

We would like to invite all ASC members to our next evening social meeting on Tuesday 19th February We run these events every few months and they are free to ASC & MRS members. The objective is to provide a short briefing or discussion on a technology topic of interest, followed by an opportunity to socialise with your friends and colleagues in the industry. We provide a hot food buffet and the first two drinks, paid for by the ASC, and then drinks can be bought at the bar.

This event will be a 'Winter Warmer' Quiz Night. The quiz will consist of a number of rounds, all with some sort of technology twist. Can’t promise that all of the questions will be easy, but we can promise a fun night of rounds on technology, market research and just plain old general knowledge. Come along and compete with your industry peers in the welcoming surrounding of this central London public house.

ASC Quiz trophy We are happy for people to enter as teams of up to 6 people, but you can also join up with friends and colleagues on the night to make ad hoc teams. The pub has limited capacity so please let us know as soon as possible that you are coming. Those who came to the previous quiz thoroughly enjoyed themselves (see picture).

The event is open to ASC members, MRS members and those who work at MRS Company Partner organisations. If you do not fall into one of these categories you may attend the first meeting at no charge, but will need to satisfy our membership requirements to attend future events - it is possible to join the ASC at the meeting. If you have any doubts please contact the ASC administrator.

Report

triple-s teamMore than fifty research professionals assembled near Piccadilly for an evening that gave the brain a real workout. The Captain’s Cabin is not the easiest to find and this led to a short delay in proceedings. However, once inside there seemed no such problems finding the bar!

Eight teams registered their intent and began the task of the solving the research software word search. Some teams used this round as the opportunity to invent names never heard of before in market research circles – nice try! Other rounds included the Triple-S ‘faces’ round, sport, films, ‘in the news’ and general knowledge. By 9pm all the questions had been asked and all the answers marked.

QuizmasterA strong team from ONS looked like taking the trophy all night until the very final round when from nowhere the team captained by Steve Taylor (aptly named Steve’s team) surged through to win the competition by a single point. The crowd clapped in appreciation as Steve himself held the trophy aloft with a face that showed true joy! He later put the win down to having the same strange taste in eighties music as the quiz master.

It was a great night and everyone went home feeling slightly more educated and a little more inebriated.

Look our for the next quiz night later in the year.
