ASC/MRS Technology Social Evening

Wednesday 11th July 2007 at the
Grouse and Claret Pub
14-15 Little Chester Street, Belgravia SW1X 7AP
(Nearest tubes, Victoria and Hyde Park Corner)

We would like to invite all ASC members to our next evening social meeting on Wednesday 11th July. We run these events every few months and they are free to ASC & MRS members. The objective is to provide a short briefing or discussion on a technology topic of interest, followed by an opportunity to socialise with your friends and colleagues in the industry. We provide bar snacks and drinks, paid for by the ASC until 8.30pm, although we will have the venue for the whole evening if you want to stay on.

This event will be a Quiz Night. The quiz will consist of a number of rounds, all with some sort of technology twist.

We are happy for people to enter as teams of up to 6 people, but you can also join up with friends and colleagues on the night to make ad hoc teams.

There will be a trophy for the winning team, and we are looking at the possibility of prizes for each round, though this is still to be confirmed.

Places are strictly limited due to the size of the venue and you must reserve your place in advance by e-mailing Sue Taylor.

The event is open to ASC members, MRS members and those who work at MRS Company Partner organisations. If you do not fall into one of these categories you may attend the first meeting at no charge, but will need to satisfy our membership requirements to attend future events - it is possible to join the ASC at the meeting. If you have any doubts please contact the ASC administrator.

Report

So just who his is the most intelligent market research technologist?
…was the question we set out to answer in the ASC / MRS pub quiz, once again set in our trendy yet traditional west London location.

More than 50 brains in 8 teams battled through the evening to be crowned 2007 champions. The quiz attempted to find a balance between testing the participant’s research, technology and plain old fashioned general knowledge. Teams representing GFK, Triple-S, Global Park/Gama Associates, GMI and Ipsos MORI were amongst the challengers.

A very enjoyable night did not lack a competitive element especially amongst our friends from the MR software world. There was also tactical play from ‘Categroy VI’ (from Network Research), who threw the last round to win the ‘booby’ prize. (It seems some people will anything for a GMI polo shirt!)

Quiz Master AJ Johnson and chief of scoring, Raz Khan, kept order and worked their way through eight testing rounds before announcing the winner to a by now well lubricated but appreciative audience.

Congratulations and first place went to ‘Global Gamma Dominators’, a team made up of representatives from Global Park and Gamma Associates. Runners-up were ‘Essex and the City Boys’, a team from IDA, Kantar and Inputech. The night proved to be yet another enjoyable technology event hosted by the ASC and MRS.

Thanks to Ipsos MORI, Gamma Associates, Global Park and GMI for sponsoring prizes.
