Abstract from NOP Research Group
This paper discusses the process that NOP went through in choosing its new CAPI machines. The paper begins by reviewing briefly the initial process ten years ago of choosing a CAPI software system and machines to run in on, and then discusses the extent to which decisions have been successful or otherwise over the years.
The main part of the paper looks at the decision-making process within NOP, in particular:
whether to have a rolling or one-off replacement process
when the replacement process should take place
whether to change from laptop-style to PDA
Then once all these decisions have been reached there was a process of reviewing the machines available that fit the required specification, and the paper discusses the factors that were given particular weight in deciding on the machine that NOP was going to buy.
Since the change of machine has most effect on the interviewers, the paper includes some interviewer views on the net equipment.
