For 2004, a short-list of 3 finalists was selected and evaluated in-depth by the judges. The winner was announced at the MRS Research Excellence & Effectiveness Awards held in London on the evening of the 26 October 2004.

A well designed and well engineered solution to a common problem in market research, with the potential to save many hours of labour and increase both the accuracy and usefulness of reported research findings. E-Tabs Enterprise automates the specification of complex repetitive reporting and places this within the control of research specialists, rather than programmers.

An important development in mixed mode survey data collection due to several novel features that favour the rapid deployment of surveys. This is achieved by making the maximum use of previously collected data and using a platform independent, Web-enabled architecture while requiring a negligible level of technical input.

A concrete demonstration of an attempt to provide the industry with a much-needed open standard for exchanging survey instruments. From a common questionnaire, platform-specific versions can be generated to allow data to be collected across a range of otherwise incompatible survey packages.
